The lessons will address the following macro topics:

A brief history of the evolution of social services: from mutualism to the welfare state and volunteering
Sociology in action (Hachen)
Social scientific terminology and social “pathologies”
Social-educational services
The structure and organization of social assistance and health services in the territory
The concepts of social networks and networks in the sociological discipline
Notes on the methodology of social research for the purposes of service planning
The determinants of health
The typologies of educational and social assistance interventions
Social integration and contemporary problems in society

Teaching organization

The course is taught through lectures, with a part of seminar lessons, based on class discussion and group work on some specific topics. The seminar parts require an active contribution from the students through group activities, in such a way as to evaluate the analytical and independent judgment skills acquired by the participants and individual members.
For attending students, lessons will take place during the first semester, usually on Thursdays and Fridays, as per the calendar indicated on Campusnet.
To be considered attending students, it is necessary to attend at least 75% of the lessons and seminar activities.
Usually, Thursday will be dedicated to theoretical lessons related to the program, while Friday will usually be dedicated to seminar activities, monographs and group work. In order to prepare your Project work for the final individual assessment, the teacher may schedule a moment of in-depth study in the last hour of Thursday to be dedicated to students, both attending and non-attending, on the choice of the topic of the individual Project work.


The study files are stored on the course page on Campusnet under the heading "lessons", while the other stored files may be useful for further study (as well as the freely proposed bibliographical indications for any further study) as well as useful for identifying the study topics in the seminar activities and presentation of the individual Project work.
The group activities will consist of 3-4 students who will choose a topic for study, agreed with the teacher, which will be developed during the course.
The final grade will be composed of: 3 points for each of the 7 correct questions of the test, from 0 to 3 points for each of the two open questions and 3 points for the Project work, possibly in addition to honors.

The exam will involve the administration of a test of 10 questions for both attending and non-attending students (7 multiple choice questions and 2 written questions, carried out in a concise manner on the focus of the question) on the topics of the program covered, i.e. related to the study files stored on Campusnet under the heading "lessons", the expected time will be 20 minutes.
The students (attending students), with a minimum attendance of 75% at the lessons, will illustrate a topic of their choice that will be presented orally in the classroom (Project work), also using a power point track, consistent with the program covered, in one of the last lessons on a date previously indicated by the teacher.
The non-attending students will instead prepare their written Project work during the exam on a topic of their choice consistent with the program covered in a time of 60 minutes.
The topic of the individual Project work must deal with a subject that is consistent with the topics of the program covered in the course (topics related to the links on Campusnet on the integrated course page under the heading "lessons"). Non-attending students may request a meeting with the Teacher via email during the teaching period before the start of the lesson (approximately around 2:30 pm from October to November). The date of the meeting with attending students will be communicated to those interested via email for those who have signed up to the registration mailing list on Campusnet.
