Programma
Il corso inizia con una panoramica storica della rappresentazione della follia e del disagio mentale in letteratura e nelle arti visive. Introduce i principali topoi letterari e visivi che hanno governato la rappresentazione del disagio mentale, studiando per esempio la fisiognomica e la frenologia nelle lore connessioni con pittura, fotografia e medicina, il manicomio come luogo di segregazione, la psicoanalisi e il suo impatto sulla letteratura, ecc. Una volta affrontati esempi specifici di grandi narrazioni della follia in terza persona, il corso si concluderà con l'analizzare narrazioni in prima persona, fra cui diari di internati, pazienti e psichiatri e l'uso terapeutico dello storytelling.The course begins with a historical overview of the representation of madness and mental disorders in literature and the visual arts. It introduces the main literary and visual tropes on mental disorders, studying for instance the impact of physiognomics and phrenology on the early representation of madness in painting, photography and medicine, the asylum as a place of segregation, psychoanalysis and its impact on literature, etc. Having analysed specific case studies on these 'big narratives' of madness in the third person, the course will conclude by dealing with first person narratives, including for instance diaries of inmates, patients and psychiatrists and the therapeutical use of storytelling.Testi consigliati e bibliografia
